Thurbo Tea Estate Black Thunder
This Thurbo Tea Estate, “Black Thunder”, first got our attention when we had visited Margaret’s Hope Deck, an initiative of Goodricke Group, a kind of a tea house where you get all Goodricke Teas to taste. Goodricke is the main company which owns many tea gardens in Darjeeling and Thurbo Tea Garden is one of them. We first tasted Thurbo Black Thunder here and even tweeted about this in ’17. Since then, I have been on a lookout for this and finally this year, we were able to get our hands on it. Thanks to Mr. Binod and Mr. JD Rai for making this available to us. Thurbo Moonlight was on our mind but this year, 2019, Black Thunder won our hearts hands down. So we took it. It is extremely low in quantity and that is why we are selling only in 25 and 50 gram quantities.
Made from pure AV2 clonal variety, it has a marvelous floral bouquet, appearance and brews a lovely light liqor with a lovely taste of fresh, floral notes. Highly recommended you try!

Dry Tea Leaves (Thurbo Tea Estate “Black Thunder”)
The name “Thurbo Black Thunder” signifies the silver tip that bolts in between the two green leaves. Simple as that. It is not a made up name as you find these days with all fancy names given to Darjeeling. Always check the invoice number mentioned before you buy any Darjeeling Tea, even from us. By the way this is EX-1, 2019 produce.
It has an overall appearance that is greenish-white with more of silver tips resembling elongated shaped pointy furry buds. The white fine furry hairs on buds and tea leaves signify a sign of utter care given in the manufacturing process of this tea. The leaf structure is on the larger side, elongated and well twisted. Most of the tea leaves seem clad in the furry attire and a huge abundance of silver tips is evident. It is advisable that you smell the tea leaves as soon as you open the tea pack. It gives you overwhelming bouquet of freshness and floral essence. To be precise, it is more like vanilla with some degree of hint of lemon. It also has a aroma profile of some nuttiness when taking a deeper inhalation of the essence.
Infusion or Wet Tea leaves (Thurbo Tea Garden)
It’s always magic to see these longish tea leaves and bud unfold in water. That is why we don’t recommend putting any tea in tea bags – you are missing half of the fun that really is important to enjoying tea. It has an overall greenish-pale yellow infusion. Has an overwhelming fresh floral bouquet, thoroughly active, telling a history of detailed and careful profile done in the manufacture in order to procure the desired quality and flavor. The chunky silver tips turn into pale yellowish-green and the downy fur seems sticking to the main body of the tea due to infusion. It departs fresh floral notes which is somewhat nutty as well.
Cup or Liquor characteristics (Thurbo Tea)
As all Darjeeling First Flush clonals do, the strength of this Thurbo Black Thunder cup is lighter as compared to other china varieties. It has a bright liqore with light-yellow color resulting in a lively fresh floral taste. It has a brisk character with an exceptional flavor. The cup is smooth and has a well balanced body. The taste is sweet, floral and nutty. It has a complex flavor profile with underlying and excellent floral and nutty characteristics. With mild vegetal notes, it has an overwhelming and lingering sweet aftertaste. It has mild and enjoyable astringency, dryness in the tongue.
A top variety and rare tea from Thurbo Tea Estate. Thurbo Black Thunder had impressed us in ’17 and hasn’t let down this year. An “A” grade quality 2019 Darjeeling Tea pertaining it’s quality and taste. A marvelous tea you shouldn’t miss at all cost. And also very very limited at hand! Get your share before we run out!
