Dry Tea Leaves (Margaret’s Hope First Flush Tea Darjeeling)
This Margaret’s Hope First Flush Darjeeling tea boasts a stunning appearance. The dry leaves are generously scattered with chunky silver tips, even more abundant than previous harvests. Unlike most black teas, these leaves showcase a unique color palette. Dominated by greenish and pale yellow hues, the leaves are further adorned with various shades of green, creating a visually captivating blend. This “bloom” adds a touch of elegance and distinction. Two-leaf-and-a-bud formation, a hallmark of high-quality teas, is clearly evident.
The silver tips are particularly remarkable. They shimmer with a grayish-white sheen, reflecting light and adding a touch of luster.
Here’s a fascinating discovery: a simple trick to unlock the tea’s hidden aroma. Place some dry leaves in a container and add a few drops of hot water, just enough to dampen them. You’ll be surprised by the intense chocolate-vanilla fragrance that emerges. (For more details on this “Insider Aroma Tip,” visit our blog post on brewing Darjeeling tea.)
The loose leaves are lightweight and voluminous, requiring a spacious container for storage. The aroma is a delightful combination of sweetness, freshness, and honey tones, with subtle hints of white chocolate and a touch of spice. Interestingly, the fragrance also evokes freshly baked vanilla cake. As you inhale, a subtle current of spring florals emerges, a delightful introduction to a truly exceptional tea. This First Flush Darjeeling from Margaret’s Hope is a testament to the expertise of its creators, a cup that is as beautiful as it is delicious.
Infusion or Wet Tea leaves (Margaret’s Hope Tea)

The wet leaves, generously sized, boast a verdant tapestry of bottle green, accented with hints of brown and yellow. These golden tips, a hallmark of high-quality tea, are the prominent two-leaf-and-a-bud formation. The aroma is delightful – a pronounced sweetness laced with delicate floral notes. Intriguingly, the tea also offers a whisper of spice, reminiscent of cumin and pepper. This captivating fragrance is a delightful invitation to take a sip. The bright, lively infusion further suggests a liquor of exceptional quality, promising a captivating journey for the taste buds.

Each year I look forward to Castleton Moonlight Imperial, but this time it wasn’t available so I ordered this one instead. I’m happily surprised, Margaret’s Hope Premier Moonlight is an excellent, very smooth 1st flush white, with elegant notes, full of refined white Darjeeling flavors as well as lingering after taste at back of mouth. Highly recommend. 🍃🍃🍃.

This was my first order from Thunderbolt and my first time trying their Margaret’s Hope Premier Moonlight, and it lived up to my high expectations. Steeped using their parameters, these beautiful leaves had notes of honey, rose, spring flowers, citrus, mango, herbs, and pine. It was very fruity for a first flush and reminded me of a floral IPA. I highly recommend it!
