Some info about Darjeeling Black Tea

Darjeeling Black Tea is produced using the same tea plant, Camellia sinensis and is one of the fully processed tea. Darjeeling Tea has several cultivars from which black teas are made and each have it's own charm and characteristics. Darjeeling Black Teas are supposed to be fully oxidized or fermented, but times are changing and so is the demand and the likings of tea lovers. According to such changes, Darjeeling is evolving and tea makers, through their years of experience are coming up with different varieties of Darjeeling Black Tea.

Various use of cultivars result in different characteristics and in order to retain appearance and flavor of a particular Darjeeling Black Tea, processing can be tweaked. The tea maker or tea master can change the amount of fermentation in order to get his desired output. This is complex as the processing of particular famous black tea, high in demand remains a hidden secret and only the tea maker knows what optimal timings and settings he has applied to obtain the look and feel of the tea.

The famous Darjeeling Muscatel flavor gets pronounced with only Black Teas and to be precise, this flavor can only be got from one season i.e. Darjeeling Second Flush. Darjeeling Green, oolong or Darjeeling White tea claiming to have this flavor is not accurate. And yes, only chinery variety will have the fullest muscatel flavor, not Assamica or clonals. They may acquire fruity flavors, but not this flavor in a distinct way.
